Honest gardening, honest links — here's what you should know
Some links on The Garden Scroll are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. I only link to products I genuinely use or recommend. Your trust matters more than any commission.
What is an affiliate link?
An affiliate link is a special URL that lets a retailer know a visitor came from my site. When you click an affiliate link on The Garden Scroll and complete a purchase, I receive a small percentage of the sale as a referral commission. The price you pay is exactly the same — you are not charged anything extra, and the commission comes from the retailer's side of the transaction.
Affiliate programs are a standard way for independent content creators and bloggers to earn income from their work without charging readers directly. They allow me to continue writing detailed gardening guides, product reviews, and Zone 9 planting resources for free.
Affiliate programs I participate in
The Garden Scroll currently participates in the following affiliate programs:
-
Amazon Associates — I link to gardening tools, soil amendments, irrigation equipment, and other garden supplies available on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
-
Giraffe Tools (via CJ Affiliate / Awin) — I recommend Giraffe Tools retractable hoses and garden watering equipment. Links to Giraffe Tools products are affiliate links through the CJ Affiliate network.
-
Expedia & Hotels.com (via CJ Affiliate) — My travel blog, The Travel Essentials Edit, contains affiliate links to travel booking platforms through the CJ Affiliate network.
-
JustFlowers (via CJ Affiliate) — I may include links to JustFlowers for floral gifting recommendations, particularly around seasonal occasions.
-
Ferry-Morse Seeds (via CJ Affiliate) — I may link to Ferry-Morse seed products in planting guides and seasonal content.
-
Etsy (The Garden Scroll shop) — Links to my own Etsy shop, The Garden Scroll, are direct links to my own products. These are not third-party affiliate links.
This list is updated as new affiliate partnerships are added. If you have a question about a specific link, feel free to contact me.
My recommendations are always honest
I only recommend products I have personally used, tested in my own Zone 9 garden, or thoroughly researched. The existence of an affiliate relationship does not influence whether I recommend a product — I write about tools and supplies because I find them genuinely useful, not because I earn a commission from them.
If I have a negative experience with a product, I say so. If something is not worth the money, I will tell you that too. Honest recommendations are the only reason anyone reads a gardening blog, and I take that seriously.
All content on The Garden Scroll is written independently. I do not accept payment to write positive reviews, and I do not allow brands to review or approve content before publication. If that ever changes, I will disclose it clearly at the top of the relevant post.
FTC compliance
This disclosure is made in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's guidelines on endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255), which require bloggers and content creators to clearly disclose any material connection to a brand or product — including affiliate commissions.
In addition to this page, affiliate links within individual blog posts are flagged with a short disclosure notice at the top of each post, so you always know before you read whether a post contains affiliate links.
Questions?
